Connect to Tops Ortho Remotely

The Tops server is configured to allow easy connections from your satellite office or home. You can make this connection from anywhere in the world as long as you have access to a high-speed Internet connection.

Getting started:

You can use a regular Tops workstation at the satellite office or any Mac computer. If you need to install Tops on your workstation, here is the link: Tops Ortho Installer.

You will need your practice fingerprint and Tops password. If you forget the practice fingerprint, please contact Tops Support at 770.627.2527.

Here’s how to connect to Tops from a remote location:

  1. Make sure your remote workstation is connected to the Internet through a high-speed connection.
  2. Launch Tops Ortho.
  3. Enter your Tops Ortho password.
  4. Click the Server pop-up menu and select Edit Bookmarks.

  1. Click the + icon.
  2. In the Name column, enter the name, as an example, Remote or Home.
  3. In the IP Address column, enter the main office’s IP remote address.
  4. Click Use Selected Server.

  5. The first time you connect, you will be asked to enter the Practice Fingerprint. Save the fingerprint to your macOS Keychain and it will store the fingerprint so you won't need to enter it for future logins.
  6. Click Connect.

There may be an alert that asks you to update Tops to a new version. If this alert displays, click the Update button. After downloading the new version you will return to the Tops login window. Follow the steps above to log in to the new version.
