The Focused Inbox in TopsDPX
When viewing the Messages product in TopsDPX, you have the option to view the list of messages with Focus Inbox enabled or disabled.
How do I access the settings to enable or disable the Focused inbox?
From the Messages tab, click the gear next to the Name or Phone search field.

What is the Focused Inbox?
- This includes any text that a patient replies to, including their response to an automated confirmation request.
What is the All inbox?
The All inbox includes every patient that has received or responded to a text, including all outbound automated texts such as Reminders.
What is the Filter?
With Focus Inbox enabled, the Filter tab is activated. Any conversation that has been assigned a Flag or assigned to a Team Member can be filtered. Additionally, Unread conversations can be filtered.
How can I tell if I have a new message?
- With the Focus Inbox enabled, a new message indicator will appear when there is a new, unread message.
- If you accidentally read a message that needs to remain Unread, you can easily mark the message as Unread by clicking the three-dot ellipse ︙next to each thread,and choose the option to Mark Unread.
- From the Settings menu, you can also enable or disable Notification Sound to play an incoming message alert.

What are the Features of a Conversation Thread?
Whether viewing a text thread from the Focused Inbox, the All Inbox or a Filter Inbox, there are actions available to help manage the messages. From the three-dot ellipse ︙next to each thread, you can disclose an action menu.
- Assign a Flag to a conversation or Remove Flag
- Assign a Conversation to a Team Member or Remove Assignment
- Delete a Conversation
- Mark a thread as Unread
- Mark a thread as Read
How can I have my team members appear for conversation assignment?
They must be set up as individual users. Please reference the article about adding Users to DPX at the bottom of this page.
How can I remove a patient from the Focused inbox?
Message management is key when the Focus Inbox has been enabled. Once a patient or team member interacts using the texting feature, the patient will appear and remain in the Focused inbox until the text thread has been deleted. Once you delete the thread, the patient is removed from the Focused inbox. Their contact information can still be searched along with their history of automated messages.


When I delete a patient's conversation history, is it saved anywhere?
The conversation interaction between the user and the practice is permanently deleted. The automated message history, such as reminders and confirmations, are saved in the patient's TopsDPX record.
When I delete a patient's conversation history, is their automated message history saved anywhere?
Yes - history of all automated messages sent to the user is maintained and linked through their TopsDPX record.
- To view the automated message history such as a patient's appointment reminders, confirmation requests, and recall reminders, search for the patient in Comm>Tops Reminders>Messages.
- Click the Info button to view details about the patient(s) record

- Click the hyperlinked patient to view their DPX Record

- Click the Messages tab of the patient record to view their automated messages

What features are available when the Focus Inbox is disabled?
- With Focus Inbox disabled, you still are able to assign a Flag to message, assign conversations to team members, mark messages as Read and Unread and Delete conversations.
- Your message tabs will reflect All, Flagged and Unread.
- Any conversations assigned to a team member will be visible but a filter option is not available.
- You will not be able to filter messages by specific flag colors or specific team members. The Flagged view consolidates all messages with a flag into a single view.
- The Focus Inbox setting must be enabled to allow the Filter feature.
