macOS Upgrade Strategy

If you wish to upgrade to another macOS, Tops Ortho has a recommended process.

Any workstation you wish to upgrade should have a minimum of 8GB of RAM. To see this, go to Apple Menu > About This Mac.

  1. Upgrade one non-critical workstation first. A non-critical workstation is one the office can function without in the event of unexpected reactions to the macOS upgrade.
    1. Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences/Settings and search Software Updates. If you cannot find the upgrade there, you can search the App Store.
    2. Perform the recommended upgrade. This will require a workstation restart.
    3. Use the workstation normally for one week.
    4. If you experience issues after the macOS upgrade, contact Tops Support with the specific details. (770.627.2527)
    5. If there are no issues during the first week, move on to Step 2.

  1. Upgrade two workstations using Tops Ortho to the new macOS.
    1. Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences/Settings and search Software Updates. If you cannot find the upgrade there, you can search the App Store.
    2. Use the workstations normally for one month.
    3. If there are no issues after one month, move on to Step 3.

  1. Upgrade all remaining Tops Ortho workstations.
    1. Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences/Settings and search Software Updates. If you cannot find the upgrade there, you can search the App Store.
    2. DO NOT upgrade the macOS on your Tops server until we give you the okay to do so. Always. No exceptions.
