macOS Upgrade Strategy
If you wish to upgrade to another macOS, Tops Ortho has a recommended process.
Any workstation you wish to upgrade should have a minimum of 8GB of RAM. To see this, go to Apple Menu > About This Mac.
- Upgrade one non-critical workstation first. A non-critical workstation is one the office can function without in the event of unexpected reactions to the macOS upgrade.
- Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences/Settings and search Software Updates. If you cannot find the upgrade there, you can search the App Store.
- Perform the recommended upgrade. This will require a workstation restart.
- Use the workstation normally for one week.
- If you experience issues after the macOS upgrade, contact Tops Support with the specific details. (770.627.2527)
- If there are no issues during the first week, move on to Step 2.
- Upgrade two workstations using Tops Ortho to the new macOS.
- Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences/Settings and search Software Updates. If you cannot find the upgrade there, you can search the App Store.
- Use the workstations normally for one month.
- If there are no issues after one month, move on to Step 3.
- Upgrade all remaining Tops Ortho workstations.
- Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences/Settings and search Software Updates. If you cannot find the upgrade there, you can search the App Store.
- DO NOT upgrade the macOS on your Tops server until we give you the okay to do so. Always. No exceptions.
